Poplar Creek Library has a collection of vocational guidance materials that includes books on tests, college entrance information and career resources. They are located in the lower level in the vocational guidance section in the Reference area. for assistance please contact the Reference Desk.
The Large Print Collection at the Poplar Creek Library offers a variety of popular authors in general fiction, mysteries and westerns. To find a title, check the library’s online catalog to search by author or title or call the Reference Desk. The Poplar Creek Library also has a Large Print Collection located in the Hanover Township Senior Center Library on 240 S. Route 59 in Bartlett.
The Genealogy collection at the library is located next to the Reference collection on the lower level in adult nonfiction. The titles include basic instruction on how to begin searching your family history. Newer books that have been added to the collection provide references to genealogy websites.
HeritageQuest Online, a genealogy database, is accessible from your home computer with your Poplar Creek Public Library card and pin number. The database provides access to the United States Federal Census up to 1930, and to periodicals, books and other resources, which are searchable by keyword. Periodicals and books are also searchable by name and location. This database would also be of interest to history students who are researching early American history. Ancestry Library Edition is searchable only in the library. With your library card and pin number, you may sign on at an Internet computer, click on Database Links and select Ancestry Library Edition from the list. The United States Federal Census and state censuses, as well as censuses from the United Kingdom, Canada and other countries are available. Additional resources accessible via the Ancestry database include birth, marriage and death records, and immigration, military and other records. New records are added to the database regularly. In addition to these resources, Poplar Creek Public Library cardholders may use the Interlibrary Loan Request form to request books from other libraries. Not all libraries will loan books from their genealogy collections, but many do and we can sometimes obtain photocopies of information from books that do not circulate. We can also locate books in nearby libraries that have genealogy collections, which you can access at those libraries.
